How to purchase Child 44 from iTunes Store and convert to MP4 format

What the movie said

Based on the first of a trilogy by Tom Rob Smith and set in the Stalin era of the Soviet Union. The plot is about an idealistic pro-Stalin security officer who decides to investigate a series of child murders in a country where supposedly this sort of crime doesn’t exist. The state would not hear of the existence of a child murderer let alone a serial killer. He gets demoted and exiled but decides, with just the help of his wife, to continue pursuing the case. Written by Arnold

How about the user review

Banned in Russia? Yesterday, with just my sister and I in the audience in Rhode Island, I thought Child 44 had been banned in the US as well! What a shame..this is an engrossing movie that holds very true to Tom Rob Smith’s novel (although the compelling storyline of Leo’s own childhood was truncated to near oblivion, and the key subplot of Raisa’s loyalties undeveloped). I went of course, because anything with both Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman (and that makes four films now) is well worth buying a ticket to, and the rest of the cast was sterling as well (Paddy Considine a bit wasted but you’ll never see a better club foot shuffle). I can’t heap enough praise on Tom. Did he once say he nailed his roles by first starting with the walk? Well, here he has a Forest Bondurant shamble with more plod that ideally captured a stolid man with no faith in where his next step would lead him. You can’t encapsulate 75 years of soul sapping repression and brutality with one honest portrayal, but Tom so ably reflected the plight of the honest man under Stalinism that you are left with great admiration for the resilience of the Russian character, not just horror at the degree of institutionalized hypocrisy. This film should not be banned in Russia – it should be shown everywhere as a testimony to the nobility of human spirit that could survive Stalinism, whatever the psychological aftermath.

I saw at Rotten Tomatoes the caption “a thriller without thrills” and feel that is so unfair. It seems American critics, like the wider audience, can’t bear a slower developing plot anymore. If there were “no murders” in the Soviet Union, there is equally no patience in the USA…we want ten murders a minute. Perhaps the trailers should have featured the fight scenes, because they were savage and visceral. All I can say is don’t stay away because of what the reviews claim – this is a beautifully photographed film true to the novel, with amazing performances that will hit home the brutality of the era and the courage, cunning, and luck it took one individual to “beat” the system.

As for Tom Hardy – imo he is hands down the best actor of his generation. Hands down. His last few roles in films that were largely ignored indies, (the tour de force Locke with the Welsh accent, the small town wise guy noir, with the humble Jersey accent, and now Child 44, with his exaggerated Russian) were all masterful performances and he is building, building, building on a filmography that I hope someday soon is realized with the iconic roles he deserves.

San Andreas (2015 movie) Review

I liked this movie very much. I went to cinema and saw the movie in 3D.  I might even go see it again and again, but purchased it from iTunes Store.

You can find San Andreas on iTunes Store.
You can find San Andreas on iTunes Store.

The following we can see the review of this movie from imdb.com
“San Andreas” is a CG-heavy disaster movie plain and simple. If you go see it for the story or the characters you will be disappointed. The characters are likable enough (even the bad guy is merely a coward but not evil) and the plot and dialog are predictable. I found myself sometimes saying what the actors said before they said it.

However “San Andreas” has more cliffhangers per minute than any other movie I can think of. It starts off with a literal cliffhanger to introduce the main character, Ray (Dwayne Johnson). Ray is a man who knows precisely what to do in almost every deadly situation which, in the beginning of the movie, means dropping down on ropes from a hovering helicopter (which he also pilots) to rescue a young woman from a car which is hanging on a cliff. A literal cliffhanger.

The remainder of this movie is one disaster after another which shoot at you with machine-gun rapidity from which only Ray and his disaster-savvy daughter, Emma (Alexandra Daddario), her young engineer friend, Burt (Hugo Johnstone-Burt) and his bright side-kick brother, Ollie (Art Parkinson), can escape from again and again while rescuing themselves and others along the way. “San Andreas” is the movie version of the old saying, “Life favors the prepared.”

Which brings me to my major criticism of this movie. “San Andreas” is geologically WRONG. The San Andreas fault can AND WILL create major carnage in California but it cannot deliver a 9.1 earthquake, let alone a 9.6 earthquake. Furthermore the San Andreas is a “strike-slip” fault, so it moves sideways, not up and down, and so it CANNOT create a large tsunami like that depicted in the movie.

San Andreas
San Andreas

If you want to make a film about a REAL 9+ earthquake and tsunami you should make it about people living along the coast of the Pacific Northwest, anywhere from northern California up past Oregon and Washington state right up into Canada. The Cascadia Subduction Zone runs along that entire portion of the west coast of the North America. It WILL deliver an 8.8 to a 9.1 earthquake which will devastate the Pacific Northwest coast first with the BIGGEST earthquake we can have in the US and then with a tsunami equal to the 2011 Japan tsunami. The only question is when and how bad (8.8 if half of it rips or a 9.1 if all of it rips). Contrary to the movie no one has yet figured out how to say exactly when an earthquake will occur on any given fault.

If there is one actually good thing about this movie it is that it MIGHT get people to think a little more about disaster preparedness.

The San Andreas fault and the Cascadia Subduction Zone will cause DEVASTATION for which we as a nation are ill prepared. Example: Building codes consider a building to be a success if it does not collapse during an earthquake. But can the building be USED after an earthquake? Building codes are mostly silent on that. With really big earthquakes vast number of buildings will be rendered unusable (or collapse completely) resulting in loss of housing, work places, and other infrastructure thus dealing a devastating NATIONAL ECONOMIC DISASTER on top of the earthquake disaster.

Conclusion:

I hope “San Andreas” will make people think more about being prepared, because preparedness is our only defense against earthquakes and other disasters.

It is an awe movie you can not miss.

Apple Moves Audiobooks into iBooks App, Adds Chapter Select in iOS 8.4 Beta

Earlier today, Apple seeded the first iOS 8.4 beta, which includes a revamped Music app, to developers. MacRumors forum user pazimi has found that Apple has also made changes to how it handles audiobooks in the new beta, moving playback from the Music app to the iBooks app.

audiobooks8.4

Audiobooks in iBooks in iOS 8.4 beta.
Currently, in iOS 8.3, a users’ audiobook library is divorced from their ebook library, forcing users to use two different apps to access their entire digital book library. The new update consolidates all books in Apple’s iBooks app and also fixes another longstanding issue with audiobooks on iOS. Since iOS 7, audiobook listeners have been unable to view chapter titles or even select them. However, pazimi points out that while chapters are now selectable in iOS 8.4, they do not list the actual chapter titles, as they’re listed as “track numbers”.

Finally, Apple has added a new fast forward and fast rewind feature, allowing users to easily scrub through an audiobook chapter. Users simply have to drag the book cover art to the left or right and hold to jump back or move forward further within the audiobook.

Update: iOS 8.4 also adds a standalone Audiobooks app to the CarPlay interface.

When you have DRM audiobooks and want to convert them to MP3, try Macsome Audio Book Converter, and you will like it.
